And that is of course the challenge. Instant pots seem to have more variety than laptops, and the prices are often all over the map. The good news is, the holiday season is the best time to buy, whether you’re buying a real Instant Pot or one of the many counterfeit brands (still capable).
The main rule of thumb: $ 50 to $ 70 is the sweet spot for a 6 quart instant pot. Most instant pots come in 3, 6, and 8 quart sizes, with the 6 quart models being the mainstay of most families. The best deal this season on this size is still the 6-quart Nova Instant Pot Duo at Macy’s, Target or Best Buy for $ 50, but the 6-quart Viva for $ 49 at Walmart is also a solid buy. Otherwise, we see some models with more features (like a crisp lid that turns the Instant Pot into an air fryer) in the $ 60- $ 70 range.

The Duo Nova is an updated version of the Duo and is considered one of the best models for beginners. It has all the important cooking functions including pressure cooking, slow cooking, steaming and sautéing, but also has an easy-to-seal lid that automatically seals the Instant Pot without you having to. to toggle a button (one of the most boring nuances of the original Instant Pot). It also offers 14 smart one-touch programs for preparing specific foods like ribs and chili.

Six liters is the most popular size – it’s big enough to cook for groups but not so big that you’ll have a hard time storing it. The only minor downside to the Viva is that it is limited to four hours of cooking time. For context, most slow-cooked meals won’t take you more than four hours, including roasts, pulled chicken, and pork shoulder. In fact, if you cook something for longer than that it might get mushy, so it’s not something that will deter me from buying.

Last year we would have said “never pay more than 60 for a 6 pint” which is why that $ 49 at Walmart is still such a great deal, but if you want luxury features like upgraded horsepower for 70% faster cooking and a nifty progress indicator to track every recipe accurately, then the Dup Evo Plus is a worthy upgrade. Perhaps more importantly, it has the necessary safety features to prevent any unexpected fireworks in the kitchen.
The 8 liter is a great size if you have a larger team to cook or find yourself hosting large groups and watching parties regularly. That’s pretty much a minimum as we’ll see an 8-quart Instant Pot go, in terms of price.
