Black Ops 5 placeholder logos found in the Black Ops Cold War

Black Ops 5 logos have been found in Black Ops Cold War, and the community has taken note of them.

In a tweet from a Twitter user CoDGhosts619it has been pointed out that there are Black Ops 5 logos inside Black Ops Cold War. In the images below, you can see that the “Black Ops V” logo is visible in the post of the day and at the top right of the screen.

Additionally, you can also see that the “BO5” logo is also on the top left of all Wildcards in the game.

What does it mean?

Simply put, it doesn’t mean anything. In the production stages of development, there will often be placeholder icons scattered around versions of the game internally. In the case of Black Ops Cold War, that meant the placeholders would be simple Black Ops 5 icons, presumably used until the official logo and name were agreed upon.

We contacted Activision to get a statement and were told this was an in-game placeholder kept as an error. It doesn’t matter for the future of the franchise.

Even with the news, it’s still not a confirmation that we won’t be seeing another Black Ops episode of Treyarch. Only time can tell.

Was the game initially going to be called Black Ops 5?

May be. We will never know for sure from the outside. It could very well be at a time when the game was called “Black Ops 5”, or it could be that it was agreed that this would just be used as the placeholder name.

Normally in the development cycle of a game like Call of Duty, several titles are released during the development period and agreed to a few months or a year in advance to be released. The logo, branding and marketing are all created by a specialist team and are then added to the base game.

It’s more surprising that this is the first time this has happened to a Call of Duty game in its final launch form. We may never see something like this slip through the cracks again.

If you would like to see the in-game logo yourself, it looks like the large Black Ops 5 logo has been removed in today’s update, but you can still see the “BO5” logo on the jokers in the game.

Update: It looks like console gamers can still see the Black Ops 5 logo in the Message of the Day screen.
