The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 1 update has been delayed for a week, Activision has announced.

Season 1 was set to launch on December 10 – the same day Cyberpunk 2077 was released. It will now launch on December 16.

“It’s an unprecedented amount of free content and the teams are currently gearing up for the biggest Season 1 launch week ever,” Activision said in a blog post.

“For that to happen, we’re taking a few more days to finalize everything before releasing this huge drop of new free content for the community.”

Has the PS5 forever changed the way we play single player games?

The launch of the first season of Black Ops Cold War marks the integration of Operators, Weapons, Player Progression, and Battle Pass rewards into Treyarch’s Black Ops Cold War and the free download Battle Royale Warzone.

Over 30 Black Ops Cold War base weapons along with their blueprints hit Warzone on December 16.

As for Black Ops Cold War, it gets new multiplayer maps, new 6v6 modes and playlists, the return of 2v2 Gunfight from Modern Warfare with four new maps and a new Fireteam map.

The highlight here is the return of the raid to the Black Ops 2 6v6 map, which will be playable at the start of Season 1. The addition of Raid was leaked earlier this week:

The 16th is also the launch of the new Seasonal Prestige system in Black Ops Cold War, Warzone, and Modern Warfare, with up to 1,000 season levels to work on.

It’s fair to say that Black Ops Cold War’s work has been pretty slow since launch, despite having a 2XP and 2WXP week. Treyarch has stated that a new Double XP and Double Weapon XP weekend is scheduled for Saturday, December 12 until the start of season one on the 16th.

There are two free prizes for all Black Ops Cold War players. To get them, log into the game between 6 p.m. UK time on December 8 and 7 a.m. UK time on December 16.

Black Ops and Modern Warfare collide in Warzone.

Ahead of the Season 1 launch, Black Ops Cold War is receiving an update on Tuesday, December 8. This update brings a host of quality of life improvements to the game, although Activision hasn’t said exactly what they are.

Then there’s a Black Ops Cold War update on December 15th and a Warzone update on December 16th. These updates will deliver the content for Season 1. When the second update comes out, that’s when Season 1 launches in both games.

And finally, Activision promised a new map and a new Warzone mode when Season 1 launched. It is undoubtedly Rebirth Island, which was recently leaked. Expect a remake of Blackout’s Alcatraz here.

Activision also said Warzone was getting a “new Gulag experience”. The Gulag is where players go after their first elimination in the Battle Royale and offers a chance to return to action after killing a single opponent.
