Treyarch nerfed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Shooting jump – one of the most advanced tactics in Call of Duty’s competitive multiplayer – is performed by players to make them harder to shoot, or to increase the likelihood that they will be hit under the head and thus suffer less damage, while shooting itself. You tend to see players jumping around corners when they suspect an enemy is waiting for them.

Jump-shot has always been the subject of debate within the Call of Duty community, with some claiming it has no place in the series, and others claiming it benefits the skill gap.

Treyarch made the change to the Black Ops Cold War move on February 4 alongside its big mid-season update without revealing the setting in the patch notes. However, it didn’t take players long to figure it out and then last night the developer confirmed the change in the follow-up patch notes.

The patch added a small speed penalty and a jump height penalty after landing from a jump, Treyarch said. Pre-patch, after a jump you can continue your movement, get back up to speed quickly enough to continue strafing while aiming for sights, or even go for another jump / slide combo (rabbit jump).

After the patch, once your feet hit the ground you’re stuck in place for a short period of time, preventing you from continuing to strafe while aiming sights for that short time.

It’s a subtle change, but it equates to a big nerf in show jumping, and certainly makes it a riskier tactic. The video below from Call of Duty YouTuber explains how it all works:

Treyarch said he will be monitoring this change to see how it goes and will make further changes as needed.

Elsewhere, the Black Ops Cold War Prestige store now contains Prestige icons from previous Call of Duty games, including Prestige icons from Black Ops 3 Zombies, Black Ops 4 Zombies, and Blackout. Black Ops Cold War and Warzone are currently hosting a Double XP Weekend.
