Black Ops Cold War Zombie Updates: Firebase Z, New Perk & More

[ad_1]

To celebrate Day 115, Treyarch shared a new blog post highlighting some of what’s coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War soon.

The new Zombies map, Firebase Z, arrives for free on February 4.

In their blog post, Treyarch delves deeper into the narrative origins of the Firebase Z map, reveals the new Tombstone Perk, provides updates on Onslaught Mode, and more.

Firebase Z “ will arrive on February 4 during the first season, free for all Cold War Black Ops players.

Today, we’re excited to present the official logo and new narrative details for our next Zombies map.

In less than three weeks, “Firebase Z” will introduce Zombies fans to a brand new location in the jungles of Vietnam, complete with new characters, new enemies, new game mechanics and more. And, in keeping with Zombies lore, a new badass Wonder Weapon awaits.

Now – without spoiling too a lot – let’s go down in history so far.

REQUIEM VS. OMEGA

Dimensional breaches continue to open up in the world. While Omega and Requiem work in the shadows to ensure the secrecy of their discoveries, the general public remains blissfully unaware of this new murderous arms race between East and West.

As the two sides continue to study the dimension of the dark aether and the aetherium crystals within it, each strives to gain an advantage over the other in the ongoing Cold War. The bad news? Requiem is late.

The Omega Group’s newest research outpost represents their resounding successes in harnessing Dark Aether technology for their own gains. Equipped with an on-site dimensional gateway, they gained the ability to send soldiers and other “conscripts” into the dark aether to harvest aetherium crystals straight from the source.

As a result, the Omega Group’s scientific breakthroughs in recent months have far exceeded anything Requiem could have imagined.

DESTINATION: OUTPOST 25

With the destruction of the Projekt Endstation anomaly site in their wake, Grigori Weaver and the Requiem operatives turn their attention to a far greater threat: a new Dark Aether outbreak site in Southeast Asia.

After learning that Agent Maxis has been captured by Omega Group, Weaver deploys the Requiem strike team to infiltrate the facility where they are said to be held: Outpost 25.

Against all odds, the Requiem forces will infiltrate the outpost to meet an informant from the Omega group, save Samantha Maxis and above all survive the new horrors that await them in this abandoned research center.

In the coming weeks, we’ll have more details on the story behind “Firebase Z”, new information revealed, and the official gameplay trailer to share ahead of launch. In the meantime, let’s dive into the additional content coming to Zombies as Season 1 continues.

NEW ADVANTAGE: TOMBSTONE SODA (FEBRUARY 4)

As we can have not so subtly allusion to New Year’s Eve, we bring a seventh advantage to Cold War Black Ops Zombies alongside the launch of “Firebase Z”: Gravestone soda.

“But Treyarch,” you ask, “what’s so new about Tombstone?” Thanks for asking the question. Excellent question.

When deciding on the next perk to present to the zombies, the design team looked at the full history of every perk and ability from the past that focused on death, and ultimately turned them into an incredibly useful perk for Cold War Black Ops. Tombstone Soda is all about manipulating and cheating the consequences of death, and you’ll need it against the forces that await you in Vietnam.

Unlike his first incarnation in Black Ops II, the new and improved Tombstone Soda will now transform the player into a shadow in the Dark Aether after being downed. In this shadow form, you will be equipped with weapons to give yourself a chance to resurrect yourself. However, if your health is reduced to zero in shadow form, you are dead.

Fortunately, the benefits of Tombstone only get better from there. Each perk comes with its own set of upgradeable skills in Cold War Black Ops, and this one is no different. By investing Etherium Crystals in your Tombstone Perk skill, you will unlock the following upgrades:

  • Level I – Shadow shape can regenerate health.
  • Level II – Increase the duration of the descent to 60 seconds.
  • Level III – On death, drop a stash of tombstones that save your weapons, equipment and resources.

You will be able to grab a can from the Tombstone Perk machine in “Firebase Z”, and you will also find it in the Der Wunderfizz machine in “Die Maschine” on February 4th. When in doubt, remember these timeless words: Rest in pieces, for the count …

NEW SUPPORT AND INTEL SCORESTREAKS (FEBRUARY 4)

February 4th will also bring two new Support Scorestreaks to call against the Undead: The Devastator Artillery and always satisfying Napalm strike. When the action gets a little too hot, head over to the crafting table and turn up the heat further.

Ahh, we love the smell of crispy zombies in the morning.

And of course a new Zombies card means new Intel in play. Keep an eye out for new audio logs, docs, radio communications, Dark Aether dispatches, and hidden artifacts in “Firebase Z” starting February 4th. You never know what you might find.

Friendly reminder: if you haven’t yet discovered 100% of the in-game Intel hidden in “Die Maschine” and Onslaught, now is the time to complete your collection before the story continues!
