New weapon

Wakizashi (available now)

A personal defense weapon and companion sword of the samurai katana, this traditionally forged blade uses two types of steel in its construction and is lightweight, resistant to strength and durable to wear.

Compared to the standard knife, the Wakizashi offers slightly better range in exchange for speed, which opens up new strategies for those who swear to bring knives to a shootout.

Like the Streetsweeper shotgun, the Wakizashi can be unlocked via an in-game challenge, where it can then be upgraded for camos and XP. A blueprint from the same weapon family is also available today in the all-new “Disowned Assassin” Pack.

Operator Zeyna joins the fight on January 21

NATO is winning another badass Operator for its ranks, as Zeyna Ossou, last seen alongside Bulldozer and Russel Adler at The Pines Mall to take down Stitch, will be available for deployment next week.

This specialist in mobility and heavy weapons from the DGSE, born in Senegal, has been a driving force for as long as she can remember. Growing up in the garages of her rally driver father, she jokes that she has gasoline in her veins. While she takes risks and is a bit of a wild card during infiltrations, Zeyna’s co-workers know she’s the one you want at the tip of the spear.

Get Zeyna for Cold War Black Ops and Warzone as part of a store pack during the first season.

Two multiplayer maps

Sanatorium (live now)

Ten squads of four will head to the Urals plains to fight for objectives and vehicles on land, sea and in the air.

Here in the Urals is an experimental Soviet health retreat – at the center of a clandestine investigation by NATO forces in September 1984. Low wooded hills provide shelter for squads to gain reconnaissance on the main Main circular “hotel”: a concrete, brutalist architectural Behemoth flanked by lakeside structures and a large wooden dock.

With links to secret tests within the U-23 State Sanatorium, notes found in the field of this sprawling complex point to a conditioning trial known as Project Golova.

Express (6v6) (February 4)

Back from Black ops call of duty II, Express arrives on February 4 at Cold War Black Ops as a 6v6 multiplayer favorite, known affectionately as the high tech station that has hosted many breathtaking moments in competition Call of Duty the story.

Express is a roughly U-shaped map with two train tracks looping around the main hall of the transportation hub. Players can expect plenty of close combat in the room, but should note that its glass ceiling makes it vulnerable to enemy Scorestreaks.

Long-range combat can take place across the train tracks, especially when viewing from the air bridges on either side of the map. These areas are also great places to watch one of the high-speed trains bolt near the station on one of the tracks, where it won’t hesitate to take out any operator who doesn’t care about the gap.

Multiplayer modes

Cold War Black Ops Multiplayer gets even more new game modes throughout Season 1, as well as the continuation of the fast-paced 3v3 experience, Face Off.

Dropkick (live now)

This frenzied nuclear hot potato game features two teams each vying for control of an extremely important briefcase. The round begins with each team rushing to the location of the nuclear case and trying to retrieve it. Whoever grabs the briefcase is automatically equipped with a powerful gun, but it’s ideally up to the rest of the team to keep the briefcase safe. The team with the case has access to launch codes, as well as an ever-increasing score for their team.

If you die while your team is controlling the briefcase, you won’t respawn until your transporter is eliminated and the briefcase is abandoned. If your team isn’t carrying the suitcase, it needs to be rinsed and collected before it’s too late. Once a team hits the score limit by controlling and owning the briefcase, orders to execute a nuclear strike are confirmed and the round is won… explosively! The first team with 200 points wins.

Snipers Only Moshpit (in season)

Prepare yourself, snipers. Later in the first season, Treyarch offers the new Snipers Only Moshpit mode Cold War Black Ops, where two teams of six will engage in Team Deathmatch and Domination with all restricted weapons except sniper rifles. Lethal and tactical gear, along with Scorestreak weapons (like the War Machine), will also be limited for an experience only for snipers.

Endurance mode (in season)

Following the tactical variation of the Duos this season, Black Ops Cold War The Greatest Game Mode is about to take the 10 Teams experience to a whole new level.

In the next Endurance variant, 10 teams of four will travel to Alpine, Ruka, and Sanatorium to collect uranium and arm bombs throughout the match. However, after a bomb explodes, a new one will now be online to take its place, ensuring that there will always be five bombs available instead of an initial set of five which will be reduced to a single bomb. This introduces a new layer of strategy and non-stop action to these already intense 40-player battlegrounds.

The score limit will also be doubled from 500 to 1000 in Endurance mode, making it perfect for taking on MP challenges. Join your team and experience the game’s most elaborate maps in a whole new way.

The 3v3 showdown continues

This fast-paced small team mode is here to stay in the first season, and it’s ready for your trio to claim dominance in the frenzied four-map respawn modes of Cold War Black Ops.

If you haven’t experienced Face Off yet, this playlist features 3v3 Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, and Domination game modes on the latest Gunfight maps: Game Show, ICBM, U-Bahn, and KGB.

Perfect for racking up weapon camouflage challenges or a quick warm-up before diving into larger modes, Face Off will be featured throughout the rest of Season 1 beyond this week.
