Black Panther 2 Starts Filming In July, Adds New Cast Member – / Film

After Black Panther star Chadwick bosemansurprising and tragic death, we assumed that Marvel Studios and the director Ryan coogler would put the planned Black panther 2 on the back burner while they cried and figured out how best to move forward with the sequel to the billion dollar hit.

But apparently they’ve figured it out already – or at least to such a point that a production start date has already been set. A new report says that Black panther 2 will begin filming in July 2021, just four months after the initially planned production began. And not only that, but the movie also found an actor to play one of its villains.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports that Black panther 2 will go on camera in Atlanta in July 2021, and filming is expected to last “over six months.” That’s a very long time, even for an ultra-sized superhero blockbuster like this. (For comparison, the original Black Panther filmed for less than four months.)

Meanwhile, the Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta, who appeared in Cary Fukunaga Nameless, The Bond film by Sam Mendes Spectrum, and who plays Rafael Caro Quintero on the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico, played a key role. THR says he will play one of the film’s antagonists, but it’s unclear who exactly that might be. In Avengers: Endgame, there was a reference to earthquakes occurring below sea level, which led many to question whether this laid the groundwork for Namor the submarine to eventually appear in Black panther 2. To be clear, we don’t know if this will actually play out, but since we have nothing else to do, wildly speculating that Huerta might be playing an Underwater Inhabitant is the best we can do at the moment.

Unfortunately, this new report doesn’t answer the question everyone is asking about Black panther 2: How the hell is Marvel going to move forward with this franchise without its star? We know they won’t be using a Boseman CGI to create a full performance (thank goodness) and there have been rumors that Letitia Wright’s Shuri could play a bigger role in the story, but that still doesn’t address not how the characters will react to T’Challa’s absence or how that absence will be treated in the story. Will they kill the character offscreen? It sounds a little harsh, but in retrospect I would have preferred to see Lucasfilm take this approach with Carrie Fisher’s General Leia in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker than trying to build a narrative around a few stray lines and images of deleted scenes. Perhaps the most likely solution is to completely recast the character, a choice full of challenges.
