BlackBerry Messenger at the end of May

BlackBerry Messenger, aka BBM, is expected to close on May 31, 2019, BlackBerry announced today. Before the launch of the iPhone and many years later, BBM was a vital communication method on BlackBerry phones.

While BlackBerry devices were falling apart, BlackBerry was aiming to keep BBM alive with an iOS application available since 2013, but with Messages, WhatsApp, WeChat and other messaging apps, competition was tough for BBM.

BlackBerry tried to reorganize BBM three years ago as a cross-platform email service to chat, watch content and use payment services, but it did not work.

We have put all our efforts into making it a reality and we are proud of what we have built so far.

However, the technology sector is very fluid and, despite our considerable efforts, users have moved to other platforms, while new users have proved difficult to sign.

Although we are sad to say goodbye, the time has come to end BBM's consumer service and move on.

BBM users who do not want the end of the service can download BBMe via Google Play Store because the company version of the app is always available. There is no version for iOS, but CNET indicates that an iOS application is in progress.
