Blake Lively became very outspoken about body insecurities and shopping after giving birth

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds welcomed their third child, daughter Betty, in 2019. Soon after, Lively embarked on a promotional tour for her film, The rhythm section. She reflected on that time in a new Instagram story posted on Jan.30 and recalled that no designer had samples that matched her body after birth.

“I put together a @lanvinofficial shirt and dress from @netaporter to create this cute outfit,” Lively wrote, referencing the look below. “Because no one has had samples that match me after giving birth. And so many of the clothes from the stores didn’t match either. So. A lot.”

Lively continued, “It doesn’t send a great message to women when their bodies don’t match what brands have to offer. It is alienating and confusing. And I wish I had felt as confident then as I am now, a year later in hindsight. This body gave me a baby. And produced all of this baby’s food. What a beautiful miracle. But instead of feeling proud, I didn’t feel safe. Simply because I don’t fit into the clothes. How stupid is that in retrospect?

Lively shouted at Megababe founder Katie Sturino (find out all about her here) and other style innovators to “inspire brands to do better.” [and] help women not to feel alone.

“She reminds me that we can all ask for better from the brands we love,” Lively concluded.

Of course, it’s important to note that Blake Lively talks about not being able to find designate sample sizes, not ordinary clothing, for example, from a department store or e-commerce site. That being said, the insecurity of not fitting into your favorite clothes after childbirth – or for whatever reason, frankly – is universal. Lively has the right idea: we should demand more from our favorite stores and brands. More inclusive sizing. More options. More of everything. Hope that happens.
