Blake Shelton is facing backlash for throwing a song called “Minimum Wage” as Americans continue to fight amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The “The Voice” coach debuted the new single from NBC’s New Years Eve special alongside Carson Daly to help ring in 2021. The country singer told the host that his fiancee, Gwen Stefani, had helped his brother, Todd, direct the video. The artist’s new song has to do with her love for 51-year-old singer “Hollaback Girl” and has a line in the chorus that has bowled many who have seen the show.

“Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage.”

Since the coronavirus pandemic has caused many businesses to shut down and put countless Americans out of work, people were quick to take to Twitter to castigate the singer for posting a song they thought was “deaf to tone” given the current climate.

“The irony of listening to millionaire Blake Shelton sing about ‘minimum wage love’ at the end of 2020 may be lost on its target audience,” a user wrote.

“I love his music, but the timing for minimum wage isn’t great. With so many people out of work and struggling, the song seems a bit muffled. I would like to hear more personal songs. his own stuff because he’s an amazing songwriter, ” another wrote.

Someone else accepted, writing: “Does anyone else find Blake Shelton’s song ‘Minimum Wage’ incredibly muffled about our country today?”

“Please apologize to everyone for your song ‘minimum wage’. From what I’ve read you pissed off a lot of people at a time when we need songs of hope and charity, no more shit about how much you and Gwen are in love. What an insult to all of us. Boooooo, ” a more direct user added.
