Blake SheltonThe romantic attempt to earn a minimum wage is pissing off many people who struggle to stay afloat during the pandemic.
The country star has been facing backlash since the song “Minimum Wage” debuted on NBC’s New Year’s Eve TV special. It’s supposed to be a ballad for his fiancée, Gwen Stefani, but given that they’re both multimillionaires … words are under fire.

Phrases like “Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage” are poorly timed at best for many Blake fans.
One of them reacted on social media … “I love his music, but the timing for minimum wage isn’t great. With so many people out of work and in trouble, the song feels like a little deaf I would like to hear more personal songs I wish he would write more of his own stuff because he is an amazing songwriter.
Another, who is clearly not a fan, wrote … “The irony of listening to millionaire Blake Shelton sing about” minimum wage love “at the end of 2020 could be lost on its target audience . “
Singing about the experience of the common man is nothing new in popular music – but doing it in the midst of a deadly pandemic that has claimed millions of jobs and 350,000 lives? It’s new and it’s not going well.
