Bleacher Report names Eric Berry as potential free agent

With the recent announcement of Johnathan Abram's shoulder injury, the Raiders could use some depth safely. Karl Joseph will probably take on the role of Abram as a stronger team security, but now they have no other options when Lamarcus Joyner becomes a smuggler.

Now that week 1 is over, you will see more and more veterans signing because their salaries are not guaranteed for the entire season. Given the need to place the Raiders in a safe position, the team may be interested in former All-Pro security guard Eric Berry.

In a recent article by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, Berry was named a potential target following Abram's absence. Take a look at Knox's reasoning behind his suggestion for the Raiders:

If (Johnathan) Abram's season is over, Oakland will have a hole behind the starting pads Lamarcus Joyner and Keanu Neal. Eric Berry could fill this void if the Raiders could convince him to join a former rival.

As is the case with the Chargers, Berry would bring a large amount of knowledge from AFC West to Oakland. The Raiders have not hesitated to recruit older veterans or to take risks since the arrival of Jon Gruden. This twinning would make a lot of sense.

Berry has not yet signed with a team in part because of his health. He has suffered a heel injury that has limited him in recent years. However, if he is healthy enough to play, he would make a lot of sense as the team's third safety. Expect the team to at least interest the former chief of the former leaders.
