Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus Reveals Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis

Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus has revealed new details about his cancer diagnosis.

The 49-year-old rocker said he “broadcast stage 4-A large B cell lymphoma” during a live Twitch broadcast with fans, which was captured and reloaded by a Blink fan account 182 on YouTube. Hoppus has been very open with his fans throughout the live broadcast, sharing detailed details about his diagnosis and treatment.

“My classification is stage 4-A diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, which means, if I understand correctly, that it has entered four different parts of my body,” Hoppus explained.

“I’m not sure exactly how they determine the four parts of it,” he added, “but it got into enough parts of my body that I was in stage 4., which I think is the higher it goes. So, I am at stage 4-A.

Hoppus went on to explain that he had a doctor’s appointment the next day to see if his chemotherapy treatments were working or not. The exact date of the live stream is unclear, but Hoppus has yet to share an additional update.

“Ideally I’m going tomorrow and they say, ‘Congratulations, your chemotherapy worked and you’re done and you’ll never have to think about this cancer again for the rest of your life,’” Hoppus said.

The Blink-182 frontman added that whatever update is pending – good or bad – he needs to complete his next three rounds of chemo “just to make sure.”

Despite his diagnosis and ongoing treatments, Hoppus seemed in good spirits.

“We are beating this cancer,” Hoppus told fans. “It’s just a matter of time.”

Hoppus confirmed his cancer diagnosis in June, later revealing he was first diagnosed two months earlier in April. Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge shared their support for their groupmate.

“Mark is my brother and I love and support him,” Barker told E! News in a press release. “I will be with him every step of the way on and off stage and can’t wait for us to play together again soon.”

DeLonge, who left the group in 2015, added via Twitter, “I, too, have known about @markhoppus’ cancer diagnosis for some time now. And to add to his own words that he used today, I would also like to say that he is strong and a superhuman who goes through this difficult obstacle with a wide open heart.
