What's old is new for the St. Louis Blues in 2019-2020.
The defending Stanley Cup champions unveiled on Saturday their vintage sweater, a remake of their blue, yellow and red pattern they wore between 1995 and 1998.
The redux jersey comes with the trumpet patches on the shoulders. Some of the greatest players in the history of the blues wore the uniform at its peak, including Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, Al MacInnis and Chris Pronger.
Fans could have a warm feeling by remembering the blues greats who wore jerseys, but some players, like striker Alex Steen, born in Winnipeg, also feel inspired by the design.
"I grew up at that time, so it's a little nostalgic for me," Steen said in a post on Twitter. "I remember Wayne Gretzky came to Winnipeg with this jersey."
But now, fans will remember their favorite players wearing these uniforms, including their captain. Alex Pietrangelowho was the first to model them in pictures posted on the Blues website.
"I saw him briefly. [Pietrangelo] talked about it earlier. It looks really good, "says the blues David Perron I said. "The new look of the old school is great."
The Blues will wear the full uniform in three home games on Nov. 21 against the Calgary Flames, Feb. 27 against the New York Islanders and March 31 against the Detroit Red Wings. Fans can pre-order the jerseys now either online or at the STL Authentics Team Store at Enterprise Center, with shipping or pick-up starting November 19th.
