BlueStacks is today launching BlueStacks X, a game streaming service exclusively focused on mobile games. If you are not familiar with BlueStacks, the company offers a service that allows you to run Android apps on Windows. With 40 million monthly active users and 200,000 to 300,000 new downloads per day, the vast majority of BlueStacks users are looking for one type of Android application on their PC: games.
And that’s why the BlueStacks X streaming service focuses on mobile games. Various other services are taking on console games and bringing them to mobile, but BlueStacks aims to be the games you already play on your phone, but on different devices.
The new service is being built in collaboration with now.gg, a hybrid cloud computing company. Using this hybrid technology, part of the game’s computation will be done in the cloud, while others can be offloaded to your device as well, depending on your device’s capabilities. You will access the service through the browser, but you need a browser that supports native graphics rendering.
Moreover, BlueStacks X is completely free, just like BlueStacks itself. It’s ad-supported, so you might see an ad before your game starts playing, but if that bothers you keep in mind that if it hadn’t been for the streaming service you would have probably spent this time installing the game or an update.
“BlueStacks App Player recently passed 1 billion lifetime downloads. X is a natural next step for us. The hybrid cloud is a great technological breakthrough that makes the launch of the service economically viable, ”said Rosen Sharma, CEO of BlueStacks Inc.“ We are a trusted partner for top mobile game developers. There’s a lot of excitement among them about X and some of the other innovations we have like the deep integration of Discord.
The service includes over 200 games, all of which can be played for free. The company says it adds more every week. You can access BlueStacks X today in web browsers on iOS, Android, Windows 11, macOS, Chrome OS, and select smart TVs. There is also a native client for X available for Windows.
If you want to check it out, you can play with the service here.
