Drivers' frustration may be due to the fact that BMW made no public statement about the ConnectedDrive outage or any idea of when it will be repaired. A spokesman for BMW UK has confirmed to Engadget to have suffered several breakdowns during ConnectedDrive services in recent weeks and solved the problem for most of its customers. "We have identified the cause of the breakdowns and have put in place solutions to restore the services of the majority of customers," writes BMW in an email. Some drivers still can not access back-end data, which BMW says is repairing on an individual basis.
BMW told Engadget that it had re-established ConnectedDrive service in the United States before 12:00 pm ET on Friday. ConnectedDrive runs on a separate server in the United States, which means that some BMW owners in the US were still offline as early as Friday morning. "BMW is currently migrating ConnectedDrive systems to improve future performance, which has unfortunately had an impact on some services, we are working on the fast recovery of services being discontinued and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have cause some of our customers, "wrote a BMW spokesman at Engadget on Friday.
