BMW Teases Series 8 Gran Coupé with Two Extra Doors, No Less Stylish

Aside from the extra doors, there's nothing here that we have not seen yet on the 8 Series. But good if this body does not look good like a sedan.

BMW loves variety. The automaker has sedans and coupes. But there are also the Gran Coupes, which are coupes that have been given an extra set of side doors, which are not all sedans. Confusing? Yes, kind of. But, as tradition dictates, we did not have to wait long before BMW decided to slam more doors on its last coupe.

BMW announced Friday the upcoming 8 Series Gran Coupe. Like the 6 Series Coupé and Gran Coupé that preceded it, the 8 Series Coupé is simply the 8 Series coupe with extra doors. While the Series 4 Gran Coupe is actually a sedan, it seems that the GC 8 Series will follow the footsteps of the 6 and will have a suitable trunk at the rear, which will make it a sedan.

Anyone who has paid attention to the concepts of BMW lately would have seen that coming. BMW first alluded to the four-door aspirations of the 8-series with the Concept M8 Gran Coupe, which teased both a future Gran Coupé and a future M8. We spoke to BMW at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of last year, and its representatives confirmed us that the Gran Coupe was on the way, with three variants of the M8 (coupe, convertible, Gran Coupe) last.

It's not obscene to wait for a cookie-cutter powertrain in the Gran Coupé 8 Series, borrowing the 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 coupe and convertible variant. In these cars, it develops 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, which means the M8 should be pretty sordid if it wants to outperform that engine. Given the close price of the GC Series 4 and 4, we hope that the 8 Series Coupe will remain close to starting price of series 8 $ 111,900 before the destination.
