Boater found hanging from capsized boat 86 miles off Florida

A 62-year-old boater who had been missing since Friday was found clinging to his capsized ship on Sunday off the Atlantic coast of Florida, the US Coast Guard said. The agency had been looking for signs of Stuart Bee and his 32-foot boat since he went missing on Friday.

A crew aboard the 225-foot container ship Angeles spotted Bee about 86 miles off Cape Canaveral on Sunday, the Coast Guard said in a Twitter message. The message included dramatic images of the rescue.

Coast Guard crews were on their way to Los Angeles to bring Bee ashore, the agency said.

“Saving lives at sea is our highest calling. This is a truly incredible result that demonstrates the connection between all sailors and our community, ”said Captain Mark Vlaun, Jacksonville Sector Commander. “Thank you to our mission partners for taking action and to everyone who spread the word to find and save Mr. Bee.”

Bee’s condition was not immediately known.
