The Warriors currently have a spot available on their 15-man roster and several candidates to fill it in training camp. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they will.
Warriors general manager Bob Myers is taking a wait-and-see approach with last place on the list.
“At this point we will hopefully find out in the next few weeks what the answer to that question is,” Myers told reporters on Tuesday when asked if the Warriors would enter the season with a full roster. . “I think armed with our kind of mid-level taxpayer [exception], except for disabled players, there is a chance that we will leave this spot available to see what happens throughout the season. Obviously wounds, we’ve been hit with one before. It might change that answer. Someone who plays in the camp, someone who gets agitated that we really love.
“At that point today we obviously have 14. I’ll answer that question better next week as we go along. There’s a scenario where we add someone, there is a scenario that we haven’t, and be patient and wait until later in the season. “
Following Klay Thompson’s season-ending Achilles injury, the Warriors were awarded a $ 9.3 million disability exception. [DPE] by the NBA, which expires April 19. At any time before this expiration date, they can use the DPE to sign a free agent or acquire a player in a trade that is the last year of his contract whose salary is equal to or less than that value.

When studying the current free agent market, however, there is no obvious candidate for the Warriors to sign using DPE. They are probably better off waiting for a valid opportunity to present itself – if it ever does arise – and Myers seems to agree.
“I think it’s a great tool to have,” he said. “We want to be smart about it. Sometimes you see this is used later in the buyout market when you have to beat a team that is offering a little more money. Lots of good individual players who haven’t played Together, some of these guys haven’t played together for a second. We’ll spend the camp and the preseason evaluating where we might have holes, where we could improve, what players are available.
“The good thing about [Warriors owner] Joe [Lacob]I referred to it when we did the rookie press conference, you guys and girls see it all doing it, so if that helps us win I think it will go in that direction. The Warriors will have a full roster at some point this season. But when exactly that will be, remains to be seen.
