Bobby Flay and Food Network will no longer be cooking together.
The TV chef, who first appeared on the Culinary Cable Channel in 1996 with Grill & Chillin‘, appears he will not remain on the Discovery-owned network once his current three-year pact expires at the end of 2021.
Sources close to the contract negotiations confirmed to THR that talks between Flay and Food ceased on Thursday – although neither a spokesperson for the network nor Flay’s representation at WME commented on the matter, the latter citing the policy of not commenting on active negotiations. Variety first reported the news.
With the launch of the Discovery + streamer and the massive increase in platforms bursting into the food and design lifestyle programming space, proven talents like Flay carry more weight than in previous years. Earlier this year, THR announced that Food Network mainstay Guy Fieri has struck a landmark exclusive deal – one that sees him win in eight figures – with the platform to stay in place until at least 2024.
Flay, a prolific restaurateur, is perhaps best known for his Food Network series, Tear down ! with Bobby Flay, Iron chief, Defeat Bobby Flay and the late Boy Meats Grill among them.
