Body found at Mouseketeer's home, Dennis Day, disappeared from Oregon

Authorities found a corpse last week in Oregon, in the home of a former Mouseketeer missing since July, a police spokesman confirmed Sunday.

The body, which has not been identified, was found Thursday at Dennis Day's home in Phoenix, police chief Oregon State Police Captain Timothy Fox said on Sunday.

Fox confirmed that the Phoenix authorities had asked the unit to investigate the assaults and the death of the Medford Police Department to examine the corpse.

The police did not explain how the body was found and Fox said no additional details were immediately available.

Day, an original Mouseketeer, appeared on Disney's Mickey Mouse Club TV show in his first season in 1955 when he was 12 years old.

The day disappeared last July, according to this sister, Nelda Adkins, who spoke to Dateline earlier this year.

Day's husband, Ernie Caswell, was hospitalized at the time and reported his disappearance after Day's visit, Dateline reported.

A roommate who lived with the couple reportedly told the authorities that before Day's disappearance, he had left their home on foot to visit friends, Dateline reported.

Day's car was later found with two people on the Oregon coast, reported NBC affiliate KOBI. It was not clear how people, who were not identified, had access to it, depending on the station.

Phoenix is ​​located in central Oregon, south of Medford.

Police searched Day's home, a nearby cemetery and a creek for traces of Day, but found nothing, Adkins told Dateline.

"They said they also brought dead dogs," she added. "But they never found anything that would imply that a crime had occurred."

Adkins said Day's family – most of whom live in California – did not learn of his disappearance until several months after his death, when a parent saw a local television report about it.

At the time, Caswell was hospitalized for dementia and had not been able to provide his family's contact information, reported Dateline.

According to the show, local authorities reportedly told Adkins that they had no record of their loved ones.

"We are devastated," Adkins told Dateline. "We did not know anything was going on and six months later we found out, we should have been notified."

Local authorities have not responded to requests for previous comments.
