Body found in Arkansas identified as Maleah Davis

A Texas medical examiner confirmed Monday that the body of a small child found in a garbage bag in Arkansas was that of Maleah Davis, age 4, missing.

The remains of Maleah were found Friday along the I-30 highway at Hope by workers and transported to Houston for identification.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Science was still determining the cause and mode of death, FOX26 Houston reported.

Derion Vence, 27, who told police that Maleah had been kidnapped by criminals who released him and his son, reportedly filed a complaint on May 4.

He was imprisoned on May 11 for altering a corpse after dead dogs detected an odor in the trunk of his vehicle.

Maleah's body was found after a community activist told reporters that Vence had confessed to throwing his body into Arkansas. Vence is also reported to have said that death was an accident.
