Gabrielle Petito, 22, took a trip across the country in a campervan with her boyfriend during the summer, but did not return home.
The FBI announced on Sunday that a body was found in Wyoming as investigators searched for Gabby Petito, 22, after she went missing last month.
Investigators searched the scattered camping area of Spread Creek in Grand Teton National Park on Sunday when Charles Jones, senior resident agent supervising FBI Denver, said human remains were found.
Jones told a press conference on Sunday that the remains found were “as described” for Petito but that full forensic identification was still pending.
Jones said Petito’s family had been notified of the discovery and offered his condolences.

Jones also said a cause of death has yet to be determined.

Petito had traveled across the country with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, in a converted RV visiting the national parks of the western United States. Petito had not been seen or heard since the end of August.
Her family officially reported her missing on September 11, days after Laundrie returned to Florida in the van without her.

The last known location for Petito and Laundrie was to leave Utah on August 24, and they told their family they were on their way to Grand Teton National Park.
On September 18, the FBI Field Office in Denver began conducting ground investigations in Grand Teton National Park with assistance from the National Park Service and local law enforcement.

Investigators were looking specifically at the scattered camping area of Spread Creek, which the FBI said remained closed to the public until investigations were completed.

Meanwhile, police diligently searched a large Florida wildlife sanctuary for Laundrie, 23, after her family told authorities they believed he had entered the area earlier in the week. .
He has not been seen or heard since September 14. He was named a person of interest in the Petito disappearance case.
Last week, a body camera video released by Utah police shows their meeting with Petito and Laundrie on August 12. Officers observed scratches on Brian’s face and arms. During the body camera video, Gabby also told officers that she had no intention of harming Brian.
“What did you intend to do? An officer is heard asking in the body cam video. “What was the reason for the slap?” “

“Well, it doesn’t look to me like she tried to hurt him,” the officer said.
Officers recommended the couple spend the night separately, but did not lay charges after investigation.
