A noose was found hanging in a factory in Boeing, South Carolina.

An aeronautical manufacturer official said the company was investigating the appearance of the noose found Thursday on the Boeing campus in North Charleston, where the company makes its 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

The slip knot was nylon. There was no note or any other item with it.

Nooses are often regarded as symbols of hatred because of their association with lynching.

Brad Zaback is vice president and general manager of the 787 program. In a statement to employees, he stated that he was saddened and irritated by this discovery. He says there is absolutely no room for racism in society and especially at Boeing.

Zaback says the company will take appropriate action against those responsible.
