About 100,000 residents of north Fort Worth are urged to boil their water before consumption after a power outage at a water treatment plant, the city said.
The boil water advisory primarily applies to people who live north of Interstate Loop 820, near Interstate 35W, US Highway 287, and Eagle Mountain Lake. The city said it expects the advisory to stay in place at least until noon Wednesday.
The advisory comes after the Eagle Mountain Water Plant and Raw Water Pumping Station in the 6800 block of Bowman Roberts Road lost power on Monday afternoon, according to the City of Fort Worth. The plant experienced several outages on Monday.
Much of Texas experienced rolling blackouts on Monday due to winter weather conditions in the state.
The city said water from an elevated water tank on the north side had been drained, leaving many customers without water. Once the water pressure is restored, people without water will have access to it again, but will be instructed to boil it before using it.
The boil water advisory is intended to ensure the destruction of bacteria harmful to drinking, cooking and ice making. The city said the water should be brought to a “boil” for two minutes before use.
Residents will be notified once the boil water advisory is no longer in effect.
