In a press release, Vernon says I "Looks a lot like the most adult record, the most complete. It's like you're going through all that life, when the sun started to set and you started to get a perspective. You can then integrate this perspective into a more honest and generous work. "A message on the group's website, first seen in a trailer, explains that the fourth album completes a cycle:" From the winter For Emma, there is always came the frenetic spring of Good Iver, Good Iverand the summer was unleashed from 22, one million. Now, autumn arrives early with I. "
The album has been recorded "over a long time at April Base in Wisconsin" and is over at Sonic Ranch in Texas. The title, Vernon adds, "can mean everything that means to you or to me. It may mean deciphering and reinforcing the identity. It can be how important the self is to us and how unimportant it is, how connected we all are. "
