Justin Vernon has been so ubiquitous over the past decade that it's easy to forget that there are only three albums of Bon Iver. Soon, there will be four. Lately, Good Iver is teasing the announcement of a new record and last month they shared two new songs, "Hey, Ma" and "(U) Man Like". And today, they put their cards on the table. . And the new album includes renowned guests including James Blake, Bryce and Aaron Dessner of the National, Bruce Hornsby, Moses Sumney, Francis Starlite of Francis & The Lights, Phil and Brad Cook of Megafaun, Channy Leaneagh of Poliça, Naeem Juwan of Spank Rock, Velvet Negroni and Marta Salogni. In addition, Jenn Wasner, leader of Wye Oak, now seems to be a full member of Bon Iver.
This morning, Bon Iver shared two new tracks, "Faith" and "Jelmore". "Faith" is a fast and triumphant song, a track that would probably fit as a blues-rock jam if it was not so full of electronic effects. . It features contributions from Francis Starlite, Jenn Wasner, Bryce Dessner, Brooklyn Youth Chorus, and a brass section officially recognized as the Sad Sax Of Shit. On the new album, Vernon says:
It looks a lot like the most adult record, the most complete. It's like you're going through all that life, when the sun started to set and you started to get a perspective. And then you can put that prospect into a more honest and generous job …
The title of the disc can mean everything that means to you or me. It may mean deciphering and reinforcing the identity. It can be the importance of the self and its importance, the way we are all connected.
And when he moves into Sonic Ranch's Texas studio, he adds:
This allowed us to feel confident and comfortable, to be completely free of distraction. I do not think I left the property in six weeks. And in many ways, the story of the album is that of those six weeks rather than almost six years of some songs.
