Tanya Roberts, who played a James Bond girl in 1985 A sight to kill and later had a recurring role as Midge Pinciotti on This 70s show, died Sunday January 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was 65.
Roberts’ rep Mike Pingel confirmed his death to THR. A cause of death has not been given, although Roberts collapsed while walking her dogs on December 24 and was admitted to hospital.
“I am devastated,” Pingel said. “She was bright and beautiful and I feel like a light has been removed. To say that she was an angel would be high on the list. She was the nicest person you have ever met and she had a huge heart. She loved her fans and I don’t think she realized how much she meant to them.
Roberts began her career in the 1970s as a model in television commercials and made her film debut in 1975 with the horror film Forced entry. After a string of slasher flicks, crime dramas and beach comedy, Roberts was hired to replace Shelley Hack in the fifth and final season of Charlie’s Angels. In 1982, she played Kiri in the adaptation of the master of the beasts and in 1984 she starred in the adaptation of Sheena: queen of the jungle.
The following year Roberts was cast in A sight to kill, the last James Bond film to portray Roger Moore. Roberts played Stacey Sutton, a geologist and granddaughter of an oil magnate whose company is taken over by Max Zorin (played by Christoper Walken).
Roberts’ career never fully took off after A sight to kill, however. Throughout the remainder of the ’80s and into the early’ 90s, she reprized roles in comedies like Body Slam and erotic thrillers like Night eyes. She has also made one-off appearances in various TV shows, such as the crime drama Burke’s Law.
In 1998, Roberts was cast on This 70s show as Midge Pinciotti, mother of Laura Prepon Donna’s character and object of fantasy to all the young men in the series. Roberts left the show after only three seasons but returned for a few guest appearances towards the end of the series. Her last acting credits came in 2005 when she made appearances on TV shows. Standby and Hairdresser, although in recent years she has maintained an active social media presence and spent the pandemic hosting video chats with fans on Facebook and Zoom.
