"Bones" profit dispute settled by Fox – Variety

Fox settled his long-standing dispute over the profits regarding the "Bones" crime show, during which an umpire accused Fox's top executives of lying on the witness stand.

Arbitrator Peter Lichtman issued a tough ruling in February in which he accused Dana Walden, Gary Newman and Peter Rice of "reprehensible" hiding Fox's behavior.

The plaintiffs – the actors David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel and producers Kathy Reichs and Barry Josephson – alleged that Fox had deceived them with tens of millions of dollars in profits.

Lichtman awarded them $ 50 million in compensatory damages and $ 128 million in punitive damages, making it one of the most important judgments in the history of Hollywood. Fox's lawyers, however, persuaded Judge Richard Rico that Lichtman had exceeded his powers and Rico agreed in May to cancel the award.

At the time, plaintiffs' lawyers had vowed to appeal. Instead, they settled the dispute on undisclosed terms. An opinion was filed in the Superior Court on Wednesday morning.

"The parties settled the dispute amicably," said Dan Saunders, who represented Boreanaz, Deschanel and Reichs in the litigation.

Fox declined to comment.

Following the decision of the arbitrator, Disney's general manager, Bob Iger, issued a statement of support for the intention of Walden and Rice, who held senior positions in the merged studio.
