The following contains spoilers from Netflix’s final season Lucifer… more spoilers of sorts on the ‘coming’ TV series No more bones.

Towards the end of LuciferNetflix’s sixth and final season, the titular devil (played by Tom Ellis) made up for lost time with his adult daughter Rory (dead Pool‘s Brianna Hildebrand), which was the most unexpected visit of the future.

Closing their fun father / daughter day, Lucifer was about to give Rory his favorite show, BONE – which he memorably binged (and went a little crazy) in Season 3 – only to be informed that a future reboot, titled No more bones, would have kicked the ass of the original.

You can see long term Lucifer write Chris Rafferty’s script for the scene (with Rory’s enthusiastic recap of the No more bones premise) below.

The rebirth of the Lucifer Bones sequelAsked about delivering such a final love letter to former Fox litigator, co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich replied: “Why not have BONE love! ”Co-showrunner Joe Henderson then explained to TVLine,“ Part of what motivated him was that we fought so hard to get these BONE clips [for Episode 3×20]. It was the strangest fight I ever chose, where I called people like, ‘I need BONE, I need BONE! ‘ They said to me “Why?” and I explained that “it is an arbitrary joke but it is unbelievable! ‘

“We fought so hard for it,” the EP continued, “that when we finally got it, we felt like we won it. And the idea that Lucifer loved. BONE so much so that he literally called Chloe the “Booth” who just lived through us. [For the final season] we were looking for reminders, and the idea that Lucifer has found this passion in his life, and that his daughter continues it, is eerily beautiful.

BONE really uplifted Lucifer at a very dark time in his life, ”Modrovich added.

Henderson said that while Lucifer deleted previous BONE nods with creator Hart Hanson (who based the series on Kathy Reichs’ Temperance Brennan novels), he didn’t warn his peer of the latter. “Hart always said, ‘Don’t worry – and if you want to laugh, I’m tough,’” said Henderson. “But I was like, ‘No we are not mock up is love letter material, full stop. And he said, ‘That’s cool too.’ “

At Lucifer At the insistence of the EPs, TVLine reached out to Hanson and shared the script page below. Scroll down for the BONE the creator’s reaction to the result.

Presented with the No more bones scene above, BONE creator Hart Hanson told TVLine: “I believe in all things Lucifer. I believe they are amazing writers. But if No more bones from the future may still come up with ONE more joke or pun that we’ve missed in 12 years, then all of us from the original BONE will provide the slow clap of respect and fear.

“There might be a pun around ‘knuckle’ that we missed,” Hanson admitted, “but I’m sure we’ve exhausted everything around coarse bones like ‘tailbone’, ‘pubis’ and’ pisiform “.

Would you / do you hope that No more bones becomes a real thing?
