“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” culminates with the infamous interview between Tutar by Maria Bakalova and Rudy Giuliani, but the former New York mayor was just one of many in Donald Trump’s orbit, the team of “Borat 2” was considering pranking in the third act of the blockbuster comedy sequel. “Borat 2” co-writer and producer Anthony Hines told Variety that an abandoned target in the film was My Pillow founder Mike Lindell, also known as “My Pillow Guy.” Lindell is a strong supporter of Trump and frequently runs advertisements for My Pillow products on Fox News.
“We had this crazy idea to do a socially distant interview with Mike Lindell and Borat’s daughter, and since we couldn’t do it indoors, we would do it on the edge of the woods or in some sort of wasteland. Hines revealed. “There would be a mattress over there with a load of MyPillow products and Borat would find Mike Lindell on the edge of the woods in a bed with his daughter. The guy from MyPillow would then have to explain what was going on. It was just a wacky alternative to the scene that ended in the movie.
While the “Borat 2” team considered Lindell with Donald Trump Jr. and Trump himself, Giuliani remained the first target. As Hines said, “In much of a dream world, Giuliani would have been Donald Trump. But we had 20 to 30 people in Trump’s universe who could have been the subject of this interview, and with the possible exception of Trump himself, Giuliani was the one we wanted the most.
Speaking to IndieWire in December, Bakalova said of Giuliani’s climax: “I was ready very early for a time when I would have to interact with someone at a high level. I had been adrenalized. We had some ideas on how this could be. You might think he will start to laugh and think it’s a joke. Or you might think he will start to scream. People do unpredictable things. Everything we did in the movie was completely legal and I was sure I would be safe. Sacha was in the room with me, hidden in a closet six feet from me. We also had a security team who could save me if something happened. “
