The U.S. Border Patrol said officers apprehended an unprecedented number of Brazilian nationals illegally crossing the U.S. border in the San Diego area of California this year.
According to the USBP, SDC agents have apprehended more than 7,300 Brazilian nationals since October 2020. On the other hand, SDC agents have apprehended only 330 Brazilian nationals during fiscal year 2020.

Each month since April, the SDC has met more than 1,000 Brazilian nationals entering the United States illegally – a whopping 114,000% increase from the same period the year before, when only six Brazilian nationals were apprehended.
Contacted by Fox News, a SDC spokesperson attributed the dramatic increase to economic instability and violent crime in Brazil.
The treatment of these many Brazilian nationals, meanwhile, has strained the agency’s resources due to language barriers and other factors, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Many officers had to be removed from their patrol duties and reassigned to treatment centers.

The increase in the number of Brazilian nationals crossing the border illegally reflects broader patterns in recent months of illegal border crossings committed by people who are not from Mexico or Central American countries.
