Borderlands 3 already has "the best Gearbox history figures," says Gearbox CEO

Borderlands 3 may not have had the best start possible – many people remain unhappy that the looter shooter is tied to a PC Epic Games exclusive offerand the PlayStation 4 players have been complain about performance issues – But according to Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, the game offers the publisher its "best numbers in the history of Gearbox!"

"Anecdote: On PC, the data indicates that the maximum number of players competing with Borderlands 3 on launch day is about twice as high as the record number of players competing with Borderlands 2", wrote Pitchford on Twitter on the day of the exit. "WOW, you're awesome!"

Like our friends in PC Gamer calculated, suggesting that the simultaneous peak of Borderlands 3 on EGS is around 248,000 PC-based players, Steamcharts Borderlands 2 peaked at 123,596 players at launch, and SteamDB reports a little more to 124,678 players. Double, however, and you have a figure just below 250K.

Of course, this only concerns the numbers for PC – Pitchford did not explain in detail the sales of the game on consoles – but if it is correct, it's a great start to the weekend for the irreverent shooter.

Pitchford then updated his Twitter again over the weekend, add: "Incredible day with a new maximum concomitance (and climbing) .Great figures from the story of Gearbox!"

Borderlands 3 is available on PC via Epic Games Store, PS4 and Xbox One, and you'll see a review of GamesRadar + in the next few days because we have not received any code before the launch.
