Jamie Lee Curtis has signed for Lionsgate’s “Borderlands”, joining Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart in the adaptation of director Eli Roth’s acclaimed video game. Craig Mazin wrote the last draft of the screenplay.
Curtis will play Tannis, based on the character of Dr. Patricia Tannis, an archaeologist from the planet Pandora, whose expertise could help lead to a mysterious vault filled with ancient alien technology. She has a delicate experience with Blanchett’s character, Lilith.
“Working with iconic Jamie Lee Curtis has been a long time dream of mine, and I’m so excited that she brings her humor, warmth and flair to the role of Tannis,” Roth said in a statement.
“Jamie is unique in that her characters have depth and gravity, but are also always extremely entertaining – she controls the screen,” said Lionsgate Motion Pictures Group Chairman Nathan Kahane. “At this point, Jamie is like family to us – after bringing so much to ‘Knives Out’ and hosting the ‘Lionsgate Live’ fundraiser last summer to help theater workers, we couldn’t be more delighted to work with her again.
Avi Arad and Ari Arad from Arad Productions and Erik Feig from Picturestart are producing.
First released by Gearbox Software in 2009 as a PC and console video game, “Borderlands” has spawned several companion titles, including “Borderlands 2”, publisher 2K’s best-selling title. The latest title, “Borderlands 3,” launched in September 2019, has sold over 11 million units worldwide. Gearbox Entertainment Company founder Randy Pitchford and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick are producing the adaptation of the feature film.
Collider first broke the news.
