The adaptation of Eli Roth from Gearbox Software Borderlands threw away his Roland. Kevin Hart gets the role of ex-Crimson Lance Merc, joining Cate Blanchett (Lilith) as one of the original four heroes of the sci-fi shooter.

Lionsgate announced the casting on Tuesday, noting that Hart starred in 10 films which opened as No.1 at the box office. His most recent role was in 2019 Jumanji: the next level, whose national opening of $ 59 million was the peak of its first week.

“I am delighted to work with Kevin”, Roth (director, Hotel, and also a star in Inglorious Basterds) said in a statement. “Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we’re excited to wow audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before.

A Borderlands The feature has been in discussion since 2015. Roth was appointed director in February 2020 and Blanchett was brought on board in May.

The first one Borderlands launched in 2009; it has since grown into one of Gearbox and publisher 2K Games’ most successful franchises, leading to three full sequels and an episodic spinoff from Telltale Games. Borderlands 3 launched in September 2019 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, and an updated version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launched with the new consoles in November.
