Bose adds swipe volume controls to QuietComfort headphones and sports headphones

One of the few complaints I had in my review of the Bose QuietComfort headphones was that they lacked volume controls on board. Well, a few weeks after they went on sale the company has now fixed that problem.

In the latest update to the Bose Music app available today on iOS, there is a new volume control option in settings. (Presumably this will also happen in the Android app soon.) Once you activate it, you will be able to swipe up and down on the right earbud to adjust the volume of the audio. This feature is available for QuietComfort headphones and less expensive sports headphones. This is something that was spotted in the earliest user manuals for the headphones, but was removed before they shipped. I’m glad Bose quickly added this feature, as it makes high-end headphones more complete when it comes to controls. And for owners of sports headphones, that means you won’t have to play with your phone (or Siri or Google Assistant) in the middle of a workout or run if you need to change the volume.

Bose has also added a Spotify shortcut (optional) to its Noise Canceling Headphones 700. You can now configure the headset to launch Spotify on your mobile device by long pressing the right earbud. Other headphone makers, including Samsung, have previously added similar quick access shortcuts to the popular music streaming service.
