The Boston Celtics have been patient during the NBA’s free agency period this year. In the end, Schroder overestimated his market and never offered anything close to the contract presented by the Lakers. With few long-term offers on the table for Schroder, the future 28-year-old has decided to join the Celtics on a one-year contract.

Schroder fills a major void in the formation of the Celtics. They needed a playmaker after trading Kemba Walker in a deal that won them Al Horford. Schroder is an above average defenseman and instantly slips in as Boston’s third best threat, behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Stevens, meanwhile, managed to maintain financial flexibility for next summer, which would have heavily influenced this year’s free agency decisions.

While Schroder probably won’t be in Boston for the long haul, the deal is a major victory for the Celtics. The Celtics have signed a two-pronged contract with University of Virginia goaltender / forward Sam Hauser. It’s difficult to classify a player with a two-way contract, especially since he likely won’t see much time (if any) with the Celtics this season.

That said, Hauser is a great shooter. He had 50.3% of his shots on the field, including 41.7% on a 3-point field and 89.6% on the free throw line during his senior varsity season with the Cavaliers. The 23-year-old averaged 16 points and 6.8 assists per game. Hauser is said to have chosen the Celtics over other potential contenders and has the opportunity to prove himself in the NBA Summer League.
