TORONTO – The Boston Red Sox activated designated hitter JD Martinez and outfielder Jarren Duran from the COVID-19 injured roster on Sunday and put both players in the lineup for their game against the Blue Jays.

Duran was placed on the COVID-19 list on Friday night, and Martinez joined him there ahead of Saturday’s double schedule.

Martinez is hitting 0.284 with 21 homers and 68 RBIs in 104 games. Duran, a rookie, is down 0.176 with two home runs and five RBIs in 17 games.

The Red Sox shared Saturday’s doubles schedule despite scoring two points that day. Boston has scored five points or less in 15 straight games.

Also on Sunday, Boston put outfielder Alex Verdugo on the paternity list and selected wide receiver Connor Wang for the A Worcester triple.

Cora said bench coach Will Venable, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, will need to stay in Toronto for at least 14 days before he can cross the border to join the team. First baseman Tom Goodwin, who was close contact with Venable, will need to stay four or five days depending on his test results, Cora said.
