The 10.4-foot-wide house, located in Boston’s North End at 44 Hull St, is Boston’s narrowest house, according to a 2005 Boston Globe article.
Beyond its bizarre proportions, it also has a memorable story behind its creation.
As Insider’s Monica Humphries previously reported, local legend has it that the 1,166 square foot home was built in 1862 following a bitter feud between two brothers.
One went to serve in the Civil War, while the other remained in Boston. Their father died and the men inherited land. While one brother was fighting in the war, the other built a large house on most of the land.
When the brother finally returned to Boston, he apparently only had a tiny slide left to lean on.
Out of spite, the story goes, the brother built the narrow house on the rest of the land in order to block the sunlight from his brother’s larger house.
The property had already sold for $ 900,000 in 2017, according to real estate firm Cabot and Company.
