Warner Bros. took advantage of Marvel's absence at this year's San Diego Comic Con and released four new trailers for their upcoming biggest releases. The one who turned out to be a black horse is Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film is a follow-up to the 2014 reboot, which was itself the first in a planned shared universe that continued with Kong: Skull Island.
King of the Monsters continues on the same road that angered many fans the first time: not enough monsters. The first Godzilla took his time to reveal the titular lizard, which according to some fans has a screen time equivalent to that of Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs – about 10-15 minutes. This new trailer also focuses more on humans than on monsters, which she chooses to show only silhouettes.
Millie Bobbie Brown, the star of Stranger Things, portrays Vera Farmiga's daughter and characters of Kyle Chandler, caught between a series of "titans". The character of Farmiga, a scientist who says that to save humanity, we must be willing to make sacrifices.
It seems like she signs the destruction of an important part of the planet in order to save the rest of a battle for the throne that takes place between the monsters.

There are nods to the secret organization Monarch, which has been mentioned in Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island. And like these movies, this one also seems to suggest that the ultimate monster is humanity.
The trailer keeps the serious tone of the first film, offering glimpses of iconic characters such as Mothra, Rodan and the three-headed King Ghidorah. But he ends up with a bloody growl of Godzilla, which Charles Dance announces in the trailer saying "Long live the king."
King of the Monsters is directed by Michael Dougherty and will be released in May 2019.
