LEBANON – Scarlette Liftin from Lebanon, a student at the Peck School in Morristown, recently attended Space Academy at the US Space and Rocket Center, where she hosted Space Camp, Space Camp Robotics, Aviation Challenge and NASA Marshall Space Flight Visitors Center Center Center in Huntsville, Alabama
The One Week Education Program Promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), while Training students and allowing them to work in teams. ] This program, specially designed for trainees who are particularly interested in space exploration. Liftin spent the week training with a team that completed a simulated space mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Once aboard the ISS, the crew participated in experiments and successfully completed an extravehicular activity (EVA), or an outing in space. Liftin and his crew return to earth in time to graduate with honors
The Space Camp operates year-round in Huntsville, Ala., And uses astronaut training techniques to engage trainees in concrete applications of STEM topics. Students sleep in neighborhoods designed to look like the ISS and train in simulators like those at NASA.
More than 750,000 trainees have graduated from Space Camp since its inception in Huntsville, Alabama in 1982, including European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti and NASA astronauts Dottie Metcalf- Lindenburger, Kate Rubins and Serena Auñón, who recently joined the International Space Station. Children and teachers from 50 states and 69 countries participated in a Space Camp® program.
