A star-watching event will take place along the Greenpoint waterfront tonight, where attendees can see a series of celestial objects in clear,
The event will be held at Transmitter Park, where members of the New York Amateur Astronomers Association will bring four telescopes of "suitable size" to the pier so that everyone can enjoy the night sky, said Steve Chesler, President of the Friends of WNYC Transmitter Park
The star-watching event is the first of its kind to take place at the park , with Chesler reaching out to the group after hearing regular evenings in public places like the High Line in Manhattan and Hunters Point South Park in Long Island City
"It's just about the place. water, and you have this very bell e view of the sky, "said Chesler.
The telescopes will probably already be focused on specific objects in the nig ht sky, including Jupiter and Venus, which are likely to be in full view tonight. A telescope will also point to the Moon, and Mercury could also appear
AAANY members will also be present to explain the telescopic mechanism and objects in the sky.
The free event will take place on July 19 at the WNYC Transmitter Park, located on West Street between Kent Street and Greenpoint Avenue, starting at 8:30 pm. at 10 pm
