Tanya Muzinda, the best motocross racer, has withdrawn from the Zimbabwe team for the African Motocross Championships. African Nations of 2018 to be held at Mindola Motocross Park in Kitwe, Zambia. From August 17 to 19, there is no clbad to participate in this great continental event.

The father and director of Muzinda, Tawanda, told the Herald yesterday that his daughter had withdrawn from the Zimbabwean team for this year's African Championships. "As you know, Tanya is currently in the 85cc (Ferris wheel) category which unfortunately is not available for women at the African Championships where there is only one women's clbad, which is the 125cc clbad. "The ladies clbad (at the African Championships) is a combined clbad of all age groups and all bike sizes; and Tanya, who rides on an 85cc bike, will be at a disadvantage with the (other) women who make big 125cc motorcycles up to 450cc. We also could not get a 125cc bike in time for the African championships, but next year she will be competing with her 125cc motorcycle because she would have moved into this category, "said Tawanda Muzinda

A large team of 50 junior and senior Zimbabwean riders was named last month for this year's FIM African Nations Motocross Championships, and the team was nominated by the Bogwheelers Club, which heads the motocross motorcycling sport in this country.

But Tanya's name was missing from the revised list of 44 riders that was published by the Bogwheelers Club yesterday. It last participated in the African Championships in August 2015 when the continental event was organized by Zimbabwe in Donnybrook, Harare. The team now only has two runners – Leigh-Anne Young and Bianca Beling – who will carry the country's flag da in the women's category at the 2018 Africa Championships in Kitwe in three weeks.

One of the best junior riders in the country Emmanuel Bako (12 years old) is also part of Team Zimbabwe for the trip to Zambia where he will be joined by his cousin Munyaradzi. They will both compete in the 65cc clbad where they will be joined by Dillan Faasen, Jordan Dewdney, Declan Barrett, Hunter Moore, Blake Prinsloo and Jack Gobey. Another talented young Daiyaan Manuel will be the country's flagship 85cc with Tristan Versfeld, Ricky Whyte, Jamie Doran and Cameron Mellor. But another junior driver, Kuda Mhene (Jnr), who was part of Team Zimbabwe, has retired from the team.

Two Zimbabweans, Regan Wasmuth and Jayden Ashwell, based in South Africa, are part of the team, however. they will compete in the 125cc and MX1 categories respectively. At the FIM African Nations FIM Motocross Championships, Zimbabwe's junior and senior riders will face their best bikers from seven other African countries – Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia.

South Africa is defending champion after being crowned champion of last year in Botswana. Zimbabwe sets up for second place in front of the hosts of 2017.
