BREVARD COUNTY • SPACE CENTER KENNEDY, FLORIDA – Vice President Mike Pence will be at the Kennedy Space Center on August 3rd to announce the first astronaut crews under the Commercial Crew program of the NASA
Robert Behnken, Eric Boe, Douglas Hurley and Sunita Williams were selected in 2015 to become the first astronauts from US soil since NASA's shuttle program expired in 2011.
They will also become the first American astronauts to embark on a spacecraft from SpaceX and Boeing
Williams, who earned a master's degree in engineering management from the Florida Institute of Technology, spent 322 days in space on two missions Shuttle and NASA administrator Charlie Bolden described the astronauts as "space pioneers". The National Council of Space, will confirm a new launch date for the first private crew missions and will announce which crew caps each of the four selected astronauts will travel to the International Space Station
