Volvo locally assembles the XC60 in India

Volvo Auto India announced that the XC60 will be badembled locally by the end of September 2018. Currently, the XC60 is imported via the CBU route. Local manufacturing is expected to reduce costs and help the Swedish factory compete with the German trios BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. At the moment, Volvo is badembling the S90 luxury sedan and the XC90 in its Bengaluru factory.

The New Volvo

The announcement was made at the launch of the new XC40 in India. At the price of Rs 39.9 lakh (ex-showroom), the new XC40 confronts the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. While Volvo has not announced any local manufacturing plans for the XC40, the possibility that this will happen in the future can not be ruled out. Volvo could also consider increasing its production capacity to export cars to other markets.

The new Volvo XC60

Volvo is on an aggressive expansion plan in India which includes the expansion of dealer network and services. The company is expected to open five new dealers in India by the end of 2018. The goal is to open a dealership every month to bring to 27 the total number of Volvo pbadenger car dealerships.

It is also the only vehicle in its segment to have radar safety systems in India. This is because the radar frequencies that Volvo uses are approved by the Government of India. Frequencies used by German manufacturers still have to be approved.
