Traps return a large number of mosquitoes in York County – many positive for West Nile Virus

Compared to this time last year, York County's West Nile virus program – under Penn State Extension – has already collected 6,000 mosquitoes more, said the 39, Thomas Smith Program Administrator.

The program works at the county level to test mosquito populations, with the help of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Vector Management.

Some traps collect up to 1500 Overnight, Smith said:

One hundred mosquitoes can be tested per batch, he said, and 36 lots of 28 traps yielded results positive so far.
