The website also confirms that the adventure is free roaming. You’ll travel around Lapcat Lake in search of Cat Shines – which will allow you to unlock the new Giga Bell Power-Up – and turn on the headlights to clear dark areas. It feels a bit closer to Super Mario Odyssey than more organized 3D World classes.
Sure Twitter, Nintendo added that Bowser Fury can be selected from the Super Mario 3D World title screen – it’s not an endgame level, or unlocked by playing the Wii U reissue.
The new website also confirms how amiibo works in the expansion. Using a Bowser amiibo will cause the new Fury Bowser to appear in the game, and a Bowser Jr. amiibo will trigger “a powerful shock wave to knock out enemies and nearby blocks.” Other amiibo will cause effects as well – one of which will apparently be to transform into the golden statue of Cat Mario, as seen in yesterday’s trailer (above).
We’ve learned a lot about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser Fury over the past few days, including the addition of a photo mode, and how Fury Bowser will be a timed global event in the new adventure. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser Fury will arrive for Switch on February 12, and you can preorder it now.
We gave the Wii U version of Super Mario 3D World a rating of 9.6 / 10 in our review saying it is “wonderful, and its consistent variety and fantastic lightweight co-op play proves that Nintendo still knows exactly how. change the Mario formula into fun ways. “
