Boy Scouts Impressed With Corey Kluber’s Stuff At Showcase

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, about 25 teams went to see the veteran right-hander Corey kluber launch Wednesday, with the Mets apparently one of those teams.

Passan says Kluber was 88-90 mph on his fastball, but scouts came away in awe. The former Cy Young winner threw around 30 shots, including all of his off-speed stuff.

Kluber, now 35, was an absolute star from 2014 to 2018, winning two American League Cy Young Awards (2014 and 2017) and posting a record 83-45 on an ERA of 2.85 over that span. He also pitched 17 full games and averaged just over 10 strikeouts per nine innings.

He has been injured since then, however, averaging 5.65 in just 36 innings over the past two seasons. He only pitched one inning in 2020 because of a major level 2 muscle strain in his throwing shoulder.

New Mets starter Carlos Carrasco mentioned during his introductory press conference this week it would be nice to be teammates with Kluber again.
