Bracketology: Baylor drops to No.3 overall in NCAA tournament behind scorching Michigan

The big news in college basketball on Saturday was that Baylor won their first loss of the season in a place that has always been a home of horrors for the Bears. Kansas knocked down Baylor at Phog 71-58, reducing Bears to 1-18 for life in that building.

The loss puts Baylor back to third behind Michigan, which beat Indiana 73-57 at Bloomington on Saturday.

The new team in Sunday Support is North Carolina. The Tar Heels rocked a tough first half to come back and beat Florida State 78-70. It was the best win of the season in North Carolina and helped erase the sting of a loss to Marquette on Wednesday. The Tar Heels took advantage of an open wide when North Texas lost, making Western Kentucky the C-USA automatic qualifier in the range and freeing up a spot.

It wasn’t North Carolina’s place in the fork that was saved, however; tar heels were okay anyway. The team that had its place saved is the last team of: Drake. The Bulldogs lost to Bradley to end the regular season, missing out on a chance to tie for the MVC regular season title and get the No.1 seed in Arch Madness. The Bulldogs were wiped out by injury at the end of the season, and that’s all they can do to hang on.

Duke could have taken a spot as well, but the Blue Devils fell at home to Louisville in overtime. They would have been among the last four to claim a victory.

With the start of conference tournaments, I will begin using the conference tournament seed as an automatic qualifier once that is determined. Furman dropped out of support and was replaced by UNC Greensboro in the Southern Conference. The undefeated Navy in the Patriot League replaced Colgate in support today. The Midshipmen must win Sunday in their regular season final to hold onto that spot.

So, yes, I have the # 10 team in the NET off the field. The Patriot League team rankings this season make no sense as only the Army and Navy have played non-conference matches, and they’ve only played four each.
