There are only 123 games left for the 2020-2021 college basketball season. Almost half of these will be played on Thursday. The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee began meeting on Wednesday to begin the field selection and seeding process. The finish line is almost there.
Xavier lost to Butler 70-69 in overtime on Wednesday in the first round of the Big East Tournament. This is the Musketeers’ sixth loss in their last eight games and their worst loss of the season.

Bracketology Top Seeds

Syracuse defeated NC State 89-68 for their third victory over the Wolfpack this season. It only marginally improved the tournament’s resumption for the Orange, but with Xavier’s loss these two changed places in the fork. To do this, Syracuse also had to skip Saint Louis.
The Oranges aren’t sure, of course, but a Friday win over Virginia would help.
Elsewhere in the ACC tournament, Clemson and Louisville each lost a leading line after losses to Miami and Duke respectively. For Clemson, the loss is their worst of the season and their first outside of Quad 1. Louisville is now 2-1 against Duke and is expected to sweat Selection Sunday.
The AAC, MAC, MEAC and WAC conference tournaments will begin on Thursday. The top Big 12 and Big East teams will also be in action on Thursday, but we have to wait another day for the Big Ten and SEC seeds.
It’s been a tough year for the top seeds in the one-candidate leagues. Siena became the seventh of those teams to lose in its conference tournament and the fifth of those to lose in its opener. The Saints lost to No.9 seed Iona 55-52.
